At SLEEP WITH ME HOTEL, Next to Jungceylon Shopping Center
SWAY WITH ME garden restaurant & bar provides a relaxed space to unwind at the end of the day. Wonderful buffet theme nights apply on food and beverage.
Twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, “Sway with Me”, a restaurant off Rat-U-Thit road in the heart of Patong, offers a seafood buffet. Judging by the young and cosmopolitan clientele – oriental, Arabian, European, it is already an international hit.
Blackboards, advertising the evening’s “goodies”, mark the entrance to an airy dining space, flanked on two sides by the towering red and black presence of the hotel, colours that are re-stated in the tables, chairs and place mats of the eating area.
At one side is the BBQ station where fresh fish and seafood are on display, ready to be cooked at the drop of a customer’s hat: juicy white prawns, squid, green mussels, blue crab, rock lobster, clams, salmon steak and mackerel. Choose from seven spicy accompaniments. In the search for fresh seafood, clearly no stone has been left unturned.
Such delights come later. For now, we chose from a range of fruit juices, smoothies and cocktails – mine is a tangy Mojita Mocktail – and sample the wide array of appetizers and finger food on display. Everything is meticulously labelled. The marine theme is everywhere in evidence, as we try dishes of crab stick and sliced vegetables, dressed prawns with watermelon, and salmon salad with parmesan cheese. Interesting combinations. Tuna salad come with a fashionable pomelo accompaniment. For land-lubbers, there is also feta cheese and tomato, eggs with potato salad, and a full range of dressings.
Hot dishes, ranged in chafers along one side of the dining area, reinforce the sense of culinary experimentation: not only a rich reduced lobster bisque and a thick pumpkin soup, but attractively arranged steamed vegetables with prawns and butter, and - surprise, surprise - a seafood paella with authentic Spanish rice. Italy enters the fray with a rotate pasta, and a succulent vegetable lasagna - for me the pick of the dishes.
We conclude with our promised foray into BBQ fare. My partner chooses some green mussels and clams, accompanied by chili and tamarind dips. I opt, more conventionally, for a crisp salmon fillet and prawns, which are grilled to perfection.
I should add that for non-buffet samplers, there is a full “a la carte” menu with pizzas, pastas, classic Thai dishes, and a large selection of sandwiches and burgers. Plus an attractive bar which boasts the usual culprits, including wine by the glass. As the man said, no stone is left unturned….
