About the Chef Prasong Thaochan
Chef Prasong Thaochan grew up in a Thai family, where he developed the passion for cooking at an early age. As a child, he used to watch his mother prepare local Thai dishes from scratch in their own family restaurant.
At 19, he decided to follow in his mother’s footsteps by starting his culinary journey in a local Phuket restaurant, as part of the opening team. This led Prasong through six different countries, where he visited local street markets and learned international food traditions from local cooks.
In 2009, his culinary adventure took him to Playa del Carmen in Mexico as a sous chef in the Banyan Tree, Mayakoba. With his pre-opening experience, he again led the resort to open the first Banyan Tree Saffron Restaurant Signature Thai Cuisine in the Americas. During the first year of opening, Prasong led the team to being included in the top 50 best Thai restaurants in Mexico.
Prasong’s strength is not only in cooking himself. He believes in leading his culinary team towards excellence. With his robust leadership skills and strong belief in empowering a culinary team, he decided to venture to the Indian Ocean and joined Angsana Velavaru, in the Maldives as the Executive Chef in 2014.
Prasong has been featured in several magazines, namely the IN Riviera Maya by IN Media Group and lifestyle magazine Spend in for his outstanding Thai cuisine. A few of his signature Thai dishes are Pad Thai, Koong Prik Thai Dum and Mussaman Neua. And, with his vast experience travelling around the world, he also specialises in fusion cuisine. With his pride in his Thai gastronomy, he has created several fusion dishes that have “a touch of Thai”. For instance, his signature Roast Tiger Prawn with Stir Fried Asian Vegetables that blends Thai cooking style Japanese – being served with Japanese Miso Cream Sauce.
He now oversees all restaurants in Crest Resort and Pool Villas, which includes of Atmos Restaurant, Panorama Executive Lounge and Diva sky lounge. Pano Executive Lounge serves premium quality Mediterranean cuisine. Its signature dish, Wagyu Beef, is the highest quality beef available, while Atmos and Diva Sky lounge provide fresh seafood, international food and authentic Thai cuisine.
