Classic dining in a contemporary setting at La Trattoria
At Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket, and offering stunning sea views, La Trattoria is a fine dining restaurant serving the very best classic Italian favourites that welcomes guests from outside with open arms and big smiles.
Contemporary in design, the menu includes a wide variety of regional Italian specialities, as well a fine choice of Italian wines. Surrounded by tropical nature, La Trattoria is a superb venue for a memorable night out – whether a romantic table for two or simply a relaxed dinner with good friends.
The entire F&B team at La Trattoria is well-trained and eager to please. As soon as my dining partner and I arrive, we are seated and treated to a colourful welcome cocktail. Menus are placed in front of us promptly and I’m pleased to see that there is an allergen key.
La Trattoria’s chef, Gianandrea Rossi (the Dusit’s Executive Sous Chef) is young, Italian and passionate about sourcing the best quality ingredients and the freshest produce. Upon his recommendation, we choose our starters: a huge plate of Fritto Misto, featuring local seafood, arrives. The prawns simply ‘burst’ with the taste of ‘wild’ prawns (no farmed items here!), while the calamari is cooked to perfection – melt-in-the-mouth tender – as only chefs who really understand calamari know how. The Burrata is smooth and creamy with a portion-size that could easily work for two.
Our main dishes are classic Italian favourites: Lasagna alla Bolognese and Osso Buco. The Lasagna doesn’t disappoint, with that anticipated rich flavour that brings the taste buds alive; at the same time, the subtle use of herbs avoids overpowering the dish. My dining partner’s traditional ‘bone with a hole’ (osso buco) from Milan is tender and succulent – and has been simmered for long enough that the meat falls off the bone exactly as it should. The meat is tender, the marrow delicious and the sauce just that touch tangy. As with the appetisers, so with the main course: I doubt that anyone will find La Trattoria’s portions too small!
Desserts are chosen and we tuck into Creme Brûlée and a Beignet smothered in chocolate. Both desserts can only be described as “simply yummy”, living up to all our expectations and are followed by perfect espressos. My dining partner and I leave this idyllic location with full bellies, as we say goodbye to the enthusiastic restaurant team, and meander through the resort grounds back to the resort lobby.
La Trattoria ticks all the boxes for a perfect evening. Delicious food and a beachside venue with quiet ‘spaces’ if you’re looking for a romantic spot. The waiting staff is super-friendly and efficient without being overbearing, the prices are surprisingly reasonable for such an upscale setting, and the portions generous to say the least!
