Unique Thai restaurant with possibly the most innovative décor on the island. In the heart of Phuket Town, it’s an absolute ‘must’.
Exploring the variety of old Phuket Town´s hangouts always brings a sense of excitement; the settings and atmosphere are chic and most places - from authentic Thai hipster clubs to international restaurants - embrace picky travellers, expats and backpackers alike. In the very heart of the old town, in Soi Phutorn near a Chinese Temple, Natural Restaurant (in Thai Thamachat) has been the ultimate locale for over 21 years.
From the moment of stepping into its warm wooden embrace, visitors are drawn into an eclectic tropical world. The setting is multi-level with semi-hidden niches and surprising nooks. Decoration includes lots of plants, sculptures and an indoor waterfall as well as completely random relics such as a fish tank in an old TV. My friend and I chose a table on a terrace on one of the upper decks and we took our time studying the restaurant´s extensive menu, while sipping on our drinks, a refreshing Banana Daiquiri and a glass of surprisingly smooth house red wine. It was dinner time and the place was buzzing, but we found the service pleasantly quick.
We began with carefully chosen appetizers. Stuffed Potato with Dry Chicken Curry impressed us with its presentation and originality, given that potatoes are somewhat rare on Thai/Asian-inspired menus. The dish was delicious and seemed to have an Indian influence to it as it had sweet curry flavour. We also happily devoured a portion of Crispy Shrimp Pancakes with Plum Sauce Dip. This Thai style pita had a great texture, crunchy from nuts, and a smoky taste. It was scrumptious and complemented the stuffed potato perfectly.
